HOTELS

The "Hôtels en Poitou-Charentes" brochure contains two sections: - a guide describing 2-to 4-star hotels near the coast, on riverbanks, in the country or in the region’s main towns. Each hotel is described with a photograph, a list of amenities, facilities and leisure activities, places to visit on the spot or nearby, opening dates, rates and the address at which you can book accommodation; - a briefer directory of some 300 hotels.

CAMPING AND CARAVAN SITES

The "Camping-caravaning en Poitou-Charentes" brochure is comprised of two sections: - a guide describing 1- to 4-star sites with colour illustrations, indicating the proximity of a beach, river or town, amenities, leisure activities, the presence or absence of a swimming pool, tennis courts and children’s play areas, the address, opening dates, rates for pitches or rentals, places to visit in the vicinity; - a more compact directory of some 320 campsites (1 to 4 star) including their geographical location, level of amenities, facilities, address and opening dates.

HOLIDAYS IN A CHÂTEAU

The "Bienvenue au Château" brochure describes the châteaux and private residences in Western France that welcome paying guests with open arms. These houses are not hotels; the owners extend their hospitality to guests "as friends" in the everlasting tranquillity of their drawing rooms, while accommodating them in the stylish comfort of their well-appointed bedrooms. Several of the châteaux in Poitou-Charentes are included in this brochure.

RURAL GÎTES AND B&B

A rural gîte is a detached or semi-detached house or else a flat on the countryside. Designed and equipped to cater for families on holiday, it is rented out on a weekly basis. Guests are customarily required to provide their own linen i.e. sheets, pillows, towels and teatowels.

B&B establishments offer independent bedrooms in the owner’s private house.

B&B accommodation can be booked for a full-scale holiday or simply overnight. Bathroom facilities may be either separate or shared with the owner. Some B&Bs also offer "table d’hôte" meals. The accommodation is graded from 1 to 4 ears of corn according to the amenities provided and the ovreall quality of the ambient environment. Such classification is awarded on an altogether official basis by the Fédération Nationale des Gîtes de France.
Directories of B&B accommodation are available at the Relais des Gîtes de France in each département.
